An exceptional group of goalkeepers
Jim Hollman talks about one of his biggest achievements when he coached at Norwich City earlier in his career.
One goalkeeper to develop through that academy was Angus Gunn.
Jim told us who was involved in the set up at the time.
“You get a lot of recognition working at senior level but still to this day the biggest achievement was the academy set up at Norwich City.
Myself and the now Cardiff City academy GK coach Darren Lovell were involved there, and we had a conveyor belt of goalkeepers coming through.
We had Rob Green, Joe Lewis, Declan Rudd, Jed Steer, Remi Mathews and Angus Gunn.
So we had an exceptional group of goalkeepers and they all came from the local area aside from Rob Green.
Five of them played at England youth level and they have all gone on to have very good careers in the game. The recruitment was excellent which Colin Watts was in charge of and we had Sammy Morgan as the academy manager, we had a great team and it was exceptional.
I look back and think I played a part in that, and it sits with me in high regard. It’s what you want to do as a coach, develop goalkeepers”.
